Pumpkins are haunted.
We put dead people in the ground and when their ghosts escape the boxes they crawl into pumpkins while they are growing. This is why they are hollow, because the ghosts take up all the space.
Anyway when we open them the ghosts get out which explains both why Halloween is spooky and why pumpkin spice lattes are hauntingly delicious
